"Maybe even sooner" means no comp pick

If Suh is just released because his contract ends then the Rams have a chance of recouping a comp pick depending upon how much he signs for and whether the Rams sign another comparable free agent. Why wouldn't you want that instead of releasing Suh prematurely and not getting anything back?
