I'm in no way saying that JG is comparable to Peyton at this point in his career, BUT for context here are the stats from Peyton's first two playoff matchups vs.Bellichek:
'03-Coming off of a 38-31 victory in KC, PM went 23-47 with 237 yards with 1 TD and 4 INTs in a 24-14 loss at Foxboro. He was also sacked 4 times.
'04-Coming off of a 49-24 victory against Denver, Peyton went 27-42 with 238 yards with 0 TDs and 1 INT in a 20-THREE loss at foxboro.
I wonder what the stills looked like in those games? I'm not making excuses for JG and/or McVay, just pointing out that this has happened before against a sure fire first ballot HOFer. I wonder how many wanted to give up on PM after his teams 3 point performance in 04?
I understand your point and where you are coming from.
But why look so far back ? Why not look to the AFC championship game in KC two weeks ago and how Reid and Mahomes adjusted during halftime and rolled up 31 on that SAME vaunted Patriots defense ? 2nd year QB facing BB for the first time too in the playoffs.
They can be scored on IF the scheme is adjusted and the QB is doing his job.
We did not need Goff to be Batman on Sunday, a solid Robin would have been plenty enough.
IMHO McVay and Goff are the main culprits who fouled this golden opportunity up.
Just no way around it and does not help us one bit that a long time ago another QB has had problems vs the Patriots and BB.
The 2018 edition of the Patriots was certainly not unbeatable (as their record indicates) and their D was not top notch too (see that KC game and the 21 points they gave up on average during the reg season).
It just happened that both McVay and Goff had probably their worst day since they work together.
