The Rams put up 14 points in the 4th quarter when Faulk carried like 2 times and just 3 points the rest of the game when he had his other 15 carries. Had the run been effective and the Rams had more than 3 points, Faulk would have had his typical 25 carries, but since it was ineffective, plus the turnovers, the Rams only had 3 points and had to play catchup.
Had the Rams started out spreading the field and attacking and using Proehl and Hakim and abandoned run sooner, the Rams may have laid 56 on the Pats. It is some of the misplaced analysis ever and the facts are there on that superbowl. People complain about not running more but the great success of the game was when the Rams hardly ran at all in the 4th quarter.
Once they abandoned the run in the 4th quarter the Rams moved up and down the field for 2 scores.
17 passes in the 4th quarter and Faulk ran 3 times for 2 yards and that is the quarter that the Rams put up the 14 points. But somehow people want to say the rest of the game on the 14 carries when they scored only 3 points was more effective. The results don't support that thinking at all.
