The defense has more area to cover and that makes it easier to block and open up running lanes. Plus they have no idea what play is being ran because there are so many plays that look similar but has a slightly different twist.

I dunno. Martz ran the ball out of 3 WR sets a lot too. And that OL included Pace and Timmerman.
