take his whole body of work, applaud it, yet be critical of his play since the bye?
I think Goff has done fine...I'm not putting him at 8 but I think he is very close to top 10.
That said, he has not been the Goff of pre Bye week. I don't think you can watch any of the games and say he is there. That's why I think it's important for McVay to take it into consideration...and I think he has...by using the run game.
Goff is not as accurate. I remember early in the season, he was on fire with his deep ball, throwing receivers open, etc. I just don't see that...let's say as much now. If he made a bad throw, it would be one a game. Now...it's more. Maybe in that way, Goff has "invited" criticism by not continuing at the level he was playing early. And, maybe some, including me were shocked by the comparisons of Goff to Joe Montana, Tom Brady...the "destined for HOF". Those were unfair labels to put on a guy who had never won a playoff game. So...when he gets erratic or has a bad game...there is panic.
Now...that said, I don't think anyone can called this a failed season or bad season for Goff. I do like his demeanor in the huddle. And, while people have been justifiably critical of some of his play, I don't know anyone who has written him off.
When people talk about the game this week, you'll hear Brees vs. Goff. Well...ok...it's a no brainer. Brees is a superior QB. He's historical...he's HOF. Ok...that's alright. We have offsetting talents to counter that talent match up.
Goff's a keeper for sure. But I'm hoping the plan isn't to put it on his shoulders...unless somehow we see Jared Goff pre Bye week. Then...air it out.
