I think it's all about keeping Saffold and Fowler. All else is secondary.
Beyond that, most likely they would have to choose between Anderson and Brown at RB and, well, it's probably an easy choice. I like Brown a lot but if you can keep CJ as Gurley's backup that's huge. And maybe since they took a chance on him he'll be easier to sign. Hopefully.
I hope Suh keeps up the strong play he had vs. Dallas but I think he's long gone after the season. For one, I think they wanted him for one year all along. And two, they would not have traded for Fowler midseason had Suh been more productive. I think they let him go hoping for a decent compensatory pick.
I agree about Morgan Fox. I'm interested to see what happens there since he had been penciled in as a starter in OTAs. Maybe he is not tendered but then resigned at a lower number. Who knows. I would like to see him back.
Easley, Westbrooks, Shields, Longacre, Wilson, and Hager all create needs but very fillable needs. Really, at minimum Kiser and Okoronkwo should fill the roles of Wilson and Longacre, respectively. Hager is a nice ST guy and plays in goal line situations but that's really it.
At CB, I wonder about Chris Harris from the Broncos who said earlier this year he would be "checking in with Wade Phillips" after the season and said recently he sees a big rebuild in Denver. Would he come if released ($7.9M cap savings if they do)?.. He is a 3x Pro Bowler with 12 INTs and 51 PD over the past 5 years. Nearing age 30 he is looking for one more good contract and a chance to win. Maybe he can be attracted to LA? And if so then what happens with Peters? Harris is not a CB4 that would just replace Shields.... just a thought.
I really like your thinking, 93. As usual.
Yeah, let’s keep this simple. Extend Saffold and Fowler, if Fowler is halfway reasonable in his demands.
After that, I’m fine with extending the players that Snead/McVay consider good bang for the buck values.
I’m fully expecting a large turnover on our D roster. Not just starters, but some backups, too. Some will be replaced by incoming FA’s, others via the draft.
Suh and Joyner (including their salaries) are goners. Other starters may be on thin ice, too. Like Barron and even Brockers. Ebu’s days as a starter are iffy, although he will still be on the roster, of course.
Heck, Peters could be traded if we’re seriously thinking outside the box here.
But I digress...
Bottom line? Many D players have proven to be wanting. So I expect some ruthless pruning among our D players this offseason.
McVay wants and will have a better D in ‘19 to go with his top notch O and ST.
