Wade has made a similar comment about stopping the run

January 14, 2019 02:50PM
Wade has more than once, when asked, said that if they wanted to commit to stopping the run, they could. Of course that meant devoting more guys to the box. But clearly the overall D strategy has been to eliminate big passing plays. And, considering 13 wins against 3 losses, you'd have to say that the strategy has had merit. Don't forget that in their supposed Waterloo loss against the Bear the Rams D only yielded 15 points.

Against the Boys, the Rams committed to stopping the run because stop Elliott and you gut the Cowboy's offense. One of the main ways they did that was by Suh and Donald playing run first and not trying to immediately penetrate (that is, NOT playing run on the way to the Qcool smiley. Dak is very inconsistent, and the Rams no doubt felt good about winning if Dak was asked to win the game. Which, despite Skip Bayless's tirade and man-crush on Dak, Dak could not do.

But.....can Goff win the game for you with his arm if the run game wasn't doing well? Yep. And he has. But when the Rams have the run game going like it has been, they are a locomotive. Less flashy, but hard to slow down and nearly impossible to stop. No way the Saints can play balanced D against the Rams. They are going to have to commit to stop the run, especially since their superb run stuffer Rankins is out.
