Out of the Eight,,,, Five have either played as a QB in HS, College or the Pros.......

Six out of the eight teams are the top six in scoring....

Only one HC became a Defensive Guru with very good OC in the past..... the other seven are offensive Gurus or past OC....

None of these teams are in the top eight on Defense...

None of these teams are in the top five on points allowed....

Seven out of Eight teams have at least a HC, Coaches or player that has played in the Super Bowl....

I don't know. Cutoffs of top 8 or top 5 seem arbitrary.

If you just do the normal old top 10, it looks different.

For example, the Chargers and the Colts:

LAC O: 11th in yrds, 6th in points
LAC D: 9th in yrds, 8th in points

IND O: 7th in yrds, 5th in points
IND D: 11th in yrds, 10th in points

Dallas O: 22nd in yrds, 22nd in points
Dallas D: 7th in yrds, 6th in points

See if you just do the top 10 in both offensive and defensive categories, you end up with a different picture.

In terms of the teams that DIDN'T make it past the wildcard round (Houston, Baltimore, Seattle, Chicago), not one was top 10 in both offensive yards and points.

But 2 made it past the wildcard round that were almost top 10 in offensive yards and points, AND top 10 in defensive yards and points (Indy's 11th in defensive yards and LAC's 11th in offensive yards, so that's what I mean by close).

And one team made it that was both top 10 in defensive yards and points (Dallas obviously).

Offense is king, but....it's not a complete thing. As always, every year, there's room for good defensive teams too.
