8-8 is the average season. The farther ahead of that you get the harder it is, and it's exponential, not linear.

It is MUCH harder to go 13-3 than it is 10-6. Much, much harder.
It means that as a head coach you had to get your team prepared to play their best on a much more consistent basis.

Carroll got the Seahawks to beat expectations. Ok, great.

But the job that McVay did in taking the Rams to 13-3 was better.

Coach of the year should involve excellence, not merely exceeding low expectations.

AND, he beat Carroll head to head TWICE.
How do you give the loser of that the award?
