I asked the question then, if McVay does all the offensive calling, what exactly does Matt LeFleur do?
Personally, I think LeFleur could have used a couple more years in the offensive coordinator role before being handed a HC job. I think teams want a McVay-type of coach so badly that hiring LeFleur who spent a year working with McVay felt like the next best thing. But was it? Not sure how much of the Rams turnaround in 2017 was due to LeFleur. Probably not much. However, LeFleur was there to see how it was done. But unless he has had his own proven success, I'm afraid that won't be good enough.
