not to me. That it's a big factor, probably the primary factor, doesn't tell the entire story IMHO... as it does for you.
You say 'we've seen it before'.... I would say the same but in different context... I have seen Goff stand up to pressure as intense, (if not as prolonged), and perform admirably. I have seen nothing in Goff's character to make me assume without question that in a mere 3 games he has buckled due to that one reason and that one reason ONLY.
The story for you ends with "Goff has lost confidence in his protection"... it doesn't end there for me, and I think as well for some others. - JamesJM
I think it's simple. No qb plays well under
that much pressure. Which is why I always put it that way and always ask for examples of ones who DID. I never get any responses to that, but then at the same time there's this failure to draw the obvious conclusion---if no qb plays well under THAT MUCH pressure, then we're talking about a player in a certain situation, and not talking about "a player." I am going to hold fast to this. Unless people come up with examples of qbs who played well under THAT MUCH pressure, then I am going to assume none CAN. So for me that's not an opinion, or one guy's view---unless someone can convincingly argue the contrary, I have no choice but to accept the fact that if we can't name any qbs who played consistently well under THAT MUCH pressure, then it is not possible to do so. That means it's not about Goff, it's about both playing qb in the NFL and playing defense against qbs in the NFL.
Either way that is ONE factor in the offensive regression, but that regression is a big story.
And so the story for me isn't about Goff only so it neither begins nor ends with "Goff has lost confidence in his protection." That's just a factor.
Another thing that has happened in the last 3 games is that defenses capable of doing this have also taken away the deeper 11-25 yard routes and chunk plays that made this offense what it was when it was clicking. They do it using coverages Goff and McVay are not used to seeing and the result is some hesitation and confusion, both from the qb and from the playcaller.
That's a big part of it too. Goff is not yet experienced enough to play like a veteran qb who has already "seen it all" and it shows.
There's more but those are some of the important aspects.
