It is true that you need to get out of bounds when out of timeouts. However, that is exactly what the other team expects. There are times when taking a chance and doing the unexpected could have a big payoff. That is exactly what was going through my mind when Gurley caught the pass near the sideline. He could have gotten out of bounds, but it also seemed possible that he could use a burst of speed to get into the end zone. I'm not going to second guess Gurley, who has always been a good team player and has always tried to do the right thing.
