We can talk about how great either of these players are but if the good defenses are able to disrupt our OL and blow up our bread and butter plays then its on McVay.
If we can't scheme open wr under high pressure or block better on screens it is on McVay
If you ask me he is in a slump that has been brewing and when the players stink it up. Drop passes, miss blocks and are unaware or run wrong routes it is part of the adjustments and details we need to improve on. Part of the problem are trends. Perhaps doing a number of things from same formation is still very limited and tendencys are not being broken. Why aren't there more plays and more layers unfolding week 13? I am sorry but I just feel that we are too risk adverse. I don't feel like Goff was taking chances I felt he was unprepared to go off script and was not expecting us to struggle. The defense did not get fooled and so the discipline of this offense is beginning to limit our options.
Why is Kupp so critical? We have TE and we have Reynolds. Why do we not run plays they can excell at certainly Kupp was given his opportunities to shine with his strengths.
I lay this at McVay and he better self correct quickly or this will just have been a season where we had a good record and made a nice season show but meaningless for the offsesason.
Why Davis or Kelly not being schemed in for new wrinkles? Why not go heavy with our TEs in stead of having players run the same routes.
When we are clicking we are great because we do the same things enough to exploit teams that cannot scheme matchup but when we need to dig out and throw a wrinkle we generally turn to ST to bail us out and that is getting old because the offense needs to be able to get out of its own way and shake things up. We have the talent but right now we are lacking some imagination and creativity.
Dare I say we are being exposed to the good teams and that will take more than same stuff to beat those teams a 2nd time or in the playoffs.
