This is a bizarre one

December 06, 2018 11:05AM
But it was actually losing to The Vikings circa 1988 after Jim Everett was sacked in the end zone in OT.

I had been to a convention in Nashville and I flew up to Minneapolis on my own to see the game.

I won't bore you with the details of how or why but a girl I had never met put me up, but I ended up sleeping on a concrete floor in a freezing cold room.

She took me to an Irish bar on Saturday night and I had one too many beers. What I didn't know then was she only had one bathroom in the house and to get to it would have meant going into her bedroom where she slept with a German Shepherd named Patrick.

I was desperate for the bathroom, but daren't walk into her bedroom in my boxers in the middle of the night.

After lying there for an eternity I decided to sneak outside. The only problem was it was one of those open play sub-developments and there was nowhere I couldn't be seen by somebody. I took a chance anyway and it was fine, nobody saw me that I know.

On the Sunday I was hungover and wiped out from almost no sleep when I went to the game. As luck would have it I was sat next to Kevin Green's parents and that was fun.

Toward the end of the game, the Rams scored a TD and it looked all over. I moved to a better seat as the Vikings fans poured out.

Then they had a quick score and they all came piling back in.

I just happened to be sitting in a seat belonging to a guy who hated the Rams and me in particular. He was super aggressive and I was convinced I was about to get a good hiding, but a couple of people stepped in to calm him down.

When it went into overtime I sooo wanted to win to shut this clown up. When that safety happened I just wanted the earth to open up and swallow me as I took a lot of abuse. TBF, most of it was good natured, other than the grunt whose seat I had sat in.

I was exhausted leaving both physically and emotionally and I had the joy of flying back to the UK via 2 connections to look forward to.

Other than that. Viniteri's kick was a stomach punch of biblical proportions.

There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.
