And i dont know that I have ever seen that before... winning teams do that? I don’t know in alll my years of football I have seen that before in similar circumstances
McVay ain’t that damn smart man
Just because you've never seen it, doesn't mean it hasn't happened. I know I've seen it from multiple teams before but sadly I can't give specific examples.
Second, McVay's pretty danged smart but I don't know that anyone is saying he told Gurley to do it. I think these two games where he's done it, he's done it on his own.
Third, obviously winning teams do DO it. Rams are 11-1 and have done it twice this year. With a leaky defense that can't stop the pass, I don't see the problem with running off clock when the opportunity presents itself. When it doesn't work and the Rams lose, maybe then there will be reason to question or criticize it but it reads like a very smart, unselfish, winning move to me.
I think you're being disingenuous if you think it's as simple as putting our defense on the field to close out any offense. A 14 point lead would have likely been enough but with 2:32 a timeout and two minute warning, it was still questionable. The way Gurley did it, the Rams had a 14 point lead and the lions only had 1:51 and no stoppages. 41 seconds may not seem like a lot but that's pretty much a whole drive's worth of time at the end of a game.
Nope!
Gurley should have took the sure TD there and gone up by 14
He probably didn't realize how much time was left and how many time outs the Lions had.
You take the 14 point lead there every time !!!
So what if they fumble the snap on first and goal or get stuffed and miss the FG ???
You take the sure points there....you don't just assume you're going to score anyway and take a knee there just to grind off 30 more seconds of clock. Too much could have gone wrong there...that's why McVay had Gurley punch it in the next play.
