The Rams on Thanksgiving Day

November 22, 2018 02:10PM
I was curious... how come I've never seen the Rams play on Thanksgiving Day? So, a little internet research later...

The NFL Rams have played on Thanksgiving Day only four times in their entire history.

Nov 22, 1945: CLEVELAND RAMS 28 - Detroit Lions 21
Nov 23, 1967: LOS ANGELES RAMS 31 - Detroit Lions 7
Nov 25, 1971: Los Angeles Rams 21 - DALLAS COWBOYS 28
Nov 27, 1975: LOS ANGELES RAMS 20 - Detroit Lions 0

The above doesn't count the AFL II Cleveland Rams who played on Thanksgiving in 1936, besting the Rochester Tigers 7-6.

The funny thing is, given Rams history, it sort of figures that their only Thanksgiving loss is to the Cowboys, eh?

But back to my original musing: why have I never seen the Rams play on Thanksgiving Day? Because the last time they played on Thanksgiving I wasn't even born! (with apologies to JamesJM and Rams43 lol!).

In point of fact, the Los Angeles Rams have the longest active drought of all NFL teams when it comes to playing on Thanksgiving Day. It's incredible to think that the last time was 43 years ago. Wow.
