Back in the late 60's, thru the 70's... I believe every jersey I owned had a defensive player's name on it. When I analyzed upcoming games I always started with the Ram's D... what they could do to stop the opposing team's offense.
Without saying this is 'true' about offense and defense, (wouldn't think of making a statement that bold).. for *ME*, just speaking for myself... defense is far more intellectual, and requires more advanced skills... again, this is merely my opinion.
And so... I've always been a 'defensive' guy. WHICH - is why the new rules favoring the offense get under my skin... but actually it's not ALL the rules favoring the offense that bother me...for example I like the 5yd chuck rule, for the most part anyway.
And actually the one 'offensive has all rights' rule that bugs me the most is NOT actually a rule... unless badly mistaken I think today, as always, once that ball is in the air it's ANYONES ball... on paper... in practice, however, it's not even a close. I think receiver and defender should be given equal opportunity for the ball.
