People always complained that Big Ben was sacked a lot. But was it his oline? No. Ben always holds the ball a long time because he's always trying to make a big play downfield.
Goff is similar to Big Ben in that he is trying to push the ball downfield. And, McVay wants him to do just that. Intermediate and long routes take more time to develop than 5 yard outs and curls.
Then you have the other end of the spectrum like Alex Smith who never gets sacked very much because he's a dinker and dunker. He gets rid of the ball in a hurry. Does he have a better Oline? Heck no.
The Rams oline is excellent; especially pass blocking. It's the only thing that allows Goff to have an average per attempt in the mid 9 yards. And for him to have as FEW sacks as he has in this system is a testament to just how good and consistent our Oline is.
