Michael Brockers says Rams would go 7-9 this season with Jeff Fisher

When the Los Angeles Rams fired Jeff Fisher and transitioned to the Sean McVay era, everything changed. They went from a perennial .500 team to one competing for a Super Bowl with the best record in football right now. Under Fisher, they won 31 games in nearly five full seasons. With McVay at the helm, the Rams are 19-5 and have been a scoring machine through 24 games.

Fisher struggled on the offensive side of the ball, but even his defenses were just average. Several changes have been made since his firing, but if he were still coaching the Rams, they’d be the same old team, according to Michael Brockers.

During an appearance on FS1, Brockers said the Rams would finish this season 7-9 if Fisher were still the coach.

“Man, I don’t know, 7-9? Ugh, that sucks. And I love you Fisher, I just want to let you know, thank you for the opportunity,” Brockers said. “But 7-9, I just think the accountability – the accountability as far as everybody being on the same page, having just really strict core values of what this game is all about and what we’re about, I think we didn’t have. And I think that’s what we have now with Sean McVay. We have the same players, it’s just a different atmosphere.”

Brockers isn’t necessarily right in saying the Rams have the same players now that they had under Fisher. Sure, some have remained, like himself, Todd Gurley, Aaron Donald, Jared Goff, Mark Barron and Lamarcus Joyner. However, they’ve also added Marcus Peters, Ndamukong Suh, Brandin Cooks, Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, Andrew Whitworth and a handful of other key players.

That being said, the Rams certainly wouldn’t be in the position they’re in right now if Fisher were at the helm. His offensive system was outdated – middle school, even – and players simply didn’t buy in the way they do now with McVay.
