Rams looking for pass rush upgrades at trade deadline

The Los Angeles Rams would like like to strengthen their pass rush and would have interest in either Oakland Raiders defensive end Bruce Irvin and/or Jacksonville Jaguars DE Dante Fowler if they are made available in a trade according to Peter King of Football Night in America.

The rebuilding Raiders have already dealt Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper, and it does not make much sense for them to keep around a 31-year-old (on November 1) pass rusher who is scheduled to make $9 million next season. Originally the No.15-overall pick in the 2012 draft by the Seattle Seahawks out of West Virginia, Irvin spent four years in Seattle before signing a four-year, $37 million contract to join the Raiders. He has posted 18 sacks in his three seasons with the Raiders including three in 2018.

Fowler comes with an even flashier draft pedigree as the No.3-overall pick in the 2015 draft out of Florida but his NFL resume is actually much less impressive. Fowler missed his entire rookie season due to injury and has struggled with consistency both on and off the field. He has racked up 14 sacks in his short career including two this season but is presumed to be available after the Jags declined to pick up his fifth-year option this summer. Still only 24 years old, Fowler would offer a big upgrade for the Rams pass rush if he can keep his head on straight.
