I'm not really that much of a technician so I can't comment. Nevertheless, in the 40s and 50s the focus of an offense was the run and-as you say (or write) creative ways to run the ball. The game has evolved into more of a passing offense-thanks to the Rams passing attack in the mid to late 50s (VanBrocklin, etc.). But it looks like McVay is simply trying different ways to use all the talent he does have. What's cool is that he's not afraid to try new-or old-stuff. And since the history of the NFL the Rams have been the forerunners of innovation (off and on).
