Marcus Peters celebrated an interception return for a touchdown with a crotch grab. The NFL, not amused, picked off a bit of Peters’ bank-account total on Friday.

The league fined Peters more than $13,000 for his celebration during Monday’s season opener against Oakland, in which he dove backward into the endzone and clearly intended to make the gesture. Yahoo Sports first reported details of the fine.

Peters said after the game that he was paying tribute to his close friend, Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch, who did the same thing after two touchdowns in 2014 and was fined more than $30,000. New York Giants tight end Evan Engram did the same last year and was fined more than $12,000.

Peters is set to make $1.74 million this season. Last year, when he played for Kansas City, Peters was fined more than $9,000 for a hit to the head, and also received a $24,000 fine and one-game suspension for an on-field incident in which he threw a penalty flag into the crowd.

Thus far, Peters has been a loud, but apparently well-received, presence in the Rams’ locker room, and in particular seems to have developed a close relationship with veteran cornerback Aqib Talib.

Coach Sean McVay awarded Peters the game ball after the victory over the Raiders. Peters, an Oakland native, also recorded three tackles.
