Well, tonight we find out a lot about our Rams.
It isn't really make or break. Even if SM has erred in sitting everyone and we lose a rusty game tonight, that won't mean much if we come back strong.
But, you know, the opportunity is sitting there. I have never seen the Rams enter Game 1 with overflowing talent almost everywhere and so much league hype and expectation. They really are in a position where they are virtually expected to be a genuinely special team.
And that is so hard to do in the NFL. It's a parity league and it is so hard for a team to assert itself as authentic winners. Few teams really do it. Teams get hot each year and that rarely lasts. To be the real thing ... man, that is hard.
I have no doubt this team will be good. Compared to what we have been in recent years, it will be wonderful.
But with all of this top flight talent ... we need to be better than good. We need to be special.
Can we do that? In the reality of NFL games? Against immensely talented opposition teams?
I dunno. I really don't. We'll begin to see tonight.
