In terms of just annual average, there are right now 8 qbs above Mack and 9 above Donald.
If you look at guaranteed money it's different though. (I got this from Polian's crew and their analysis of the Donald contract on their show, which is linkable if anyone is interested).
I thought both Donald and Mack would be higher in terms of annual avg. but it turns out the real action was guaranteed money.
The top 10 contracts in terms of guaranteed money includes 8 qbs and 2 “best defenders” (Mack and Donald). Donald ranks 6th. That puts him ahead of all but 4 qbs (Rodgers, Ryan, Stafford, Luck). Mack is ahead of all but 3 qbs. Looking at those 3 top contracts measured this way, those as I said all being qbs, that means that “qb money” when seen just in terms of guaranteed money is 92 M or more.
Before the 2 recent contracts by Mack and Donald (which would leave Rodgers out too cause he had not signed yet), the highest a non-qb ranked on this was Von Miller, who at that point would have been 8th. That means a few months back, the top 10 guaranteed money contracts included 9 qbs and 1 “best defender” with the highest ranked defender being 8th. Now it’s 8 qbs with the highest “best defender” ranked 4th.
So the landscape got changed a bit.
