Even though I have had NFL Sunday Ticket since the first year they offered it (the curse of being a Connecticut Rams fan) I never called for a discount.
This year due to unrelated reason I was on the phone with them and they looked at my history with them and volunteered to give me this season for free. They told me they looked at the prior years and are giving it to me free due to those records.
It may just be they (AT&T) are looking at prior year records closer then DTV did. Sounded to me in my case it was due to them never giving me a discount in the past for Sunday Ticket.
I think that just continues what DTV was doing. The more often you got a discount, the less the discount would be. When I first asked for one it was no problem but as the years went by, it was harder and harder each year. It was also based on how much you spent on your regular service. The last couple of years I was only ordering the family plan just to keep DTV active so $29.99/month wasn't enough to take care of me once football season started.
As much as I didn't want to spend the money I ultimately gave it up because they kept changing the channel lineup and they couldn't get Dodgers games. Even if I ordered the MLB package I still couldn't watch the Dodgers because blackout restrictions.
I loved Sunday Ticket for a long time and it was great when the Rams were in St. Louis as there were never any blackout complications but it just got to be too high of a cost for what I was getting out of it and they kept finding new ways to nickel and dime the service. Having to pay extra to get the games in HD was one of the final straws.
