They turned things around quickly because they HAD drafted well since 2012. If they hadn't, no quick turnaround in 2017.
All they're doing now with their drafting is more of what they did before. Good drafting.
And of course if you want to know why that didn't bear as much fruit before, that's also pretty straightforward. You combine injuries to both the OL and qb, then add a move in.
That's why some thought there was no talent when in fact they had a lot of talent.
The difference between the McVay and Fisher regimes is a LOT more than just good vs great drafting, I think.

Moving players to positions that maximize their results.
Installing a 21st century passing O.
Efficient and rapid development of new players.
Two good examples are turning the sub-mediocre Gurley and Goff in ‘16 into studs in ‘17. What two better illustrations are there for the differences between the pathetic Fisher regime and the stellar McVay regime is needed?
As an aside, I happen to believe that the Rams under McVay seem to have a more “enlightened” approach to protecting their players from injury. Last year’s great Ram health results might have been more than just a fluke. More trendsetting by the young HC?
