The issue on pre-season is likely more about TV money than it is about fans in the seats. Although the owners want every cent they can get.

If the owners were truly concerned about injuries, they would cut the pre-season schedule back. Their concern about injuries is more about not getting sued than the injuries themselves.

So...if it's about money, cut the preseason back to two games...that way you only lose 1 home game. reallocate the ticket price to the other games. Then, have 1/2 the teams play week 1 adn 3 and the other half play weeks 2 and 4. That way the owners and networks get four weeks of preseason play to air. A system of rotating the teams between weeks 1 and 3 vs. 2 and 4 can be developed. I liked the idea of teams only playing others out of conference in the preseason.

This way, the owners really lose out on no money (except parking and concessions for one game) and they make it safer for players.

If I'm the players, I push for 2 preseason games with no salary cap adjustment for the reduction of 2 games in the new CBA. Highs school and college teams don't even do pre-season games.
