I think the decision by McVay to sit most starters after just having done two full days of joint practices was the right call. I thought maybe 7-8 starters vs 2 would play but whatever.
It is just so hard to evaluate anything but individual performances when you have backups and makeshift units playing together. Like the offensive line, for example. All I really take from the OL in game 1 (not having seen it- just read about it) is that Noteboom did alright for his first time out and Lucas and Williams are still not good (which is partly why they drafted Noteboom... )
You have some good performances by backup RBs, some of the young LBs, etc which is great. And two of the guys that will matter come September- Westbrooks and Ebukam- did well.
To me the only real concerns coming out of the Ravens game are Mannion and Troy Hill. Playing with the 2s or not I expected those two to be better. Mannion will get a lot more work and with more of the regulars in the weeks ahead. Hopefully he shakes it off. Rams could very well be on the hunt for a veteran backup QB next spring and/or with one of their several late 3rd round picks next April.
