I was thrilled when Jeff Fisher was hired and even more thrilled when he was fired. But if you really think about his role in the history of the franchise, it is ABSOLUTELY HUGE:
1. Did just enough as the Head Coach to lose SB 34 to the Rams. I will love him for that.
2. Went on a run of mediocre season causing him to be fired and available to the Rams.
3. Rams hire him and he gets us out of the rut of 1-3 wins and gets the Rams competitive but not great such that he is held for 5 years.
4. The time he is with the Rams is pivotal the move back to LA in that he never does enough to recapture that fire that existed in the GSOE days.
5. His ultimately frustrating 5 year stint times out perfectly for the Rams to hire the youngest coach in NFL history to take over the floundering franchise.
6. Before leaving he drafts or secures the following players: 1. Gurley (Offensive Player of the year) 2. Goff (P
3. Donald (HOF) 4. Brockers (Stud) 5. Joyner (Rising Star) 6. Hekker (HOF/All-Pro) 7. Zuerline 8. P. Cooper (P
and gets us the best special teams coach in the league.
How would Rams history be different without Jeff Fisher. Now that the ship is righted and we have rid ourselves of the mullet, his rightful importance to this franchise can be appreciated. Of course, none of this is advocacy for his coaching ability -- only his absolute critical role in this franchise history.
Jeff Fisher = Central historical figure and Catalyst to the greatest period of prosperity from the Rams.
