Related to this subject. I heard Rick Gosselin on local radio here in Dallas earlier this year. He pointed out that the salary cap has risen 44 percent since 2013. He stated fans will need to get used to the best players testing the market and in many cases changing teams. I think this has been demonstrated each year with a new normal being set for salaries (e.g. Watkins). If the cap continues to rise this will continue to be the case.
It has already been the case for a while now.
Watkins for example did not set a new norm. He got pretty much exactly the kind of 2nd contract WRs of his tier were getting in 2018. That's around 15-16 M. That's around what Evans got for example.
2nd contracts go up every year. That's been true for a while.
I focus on 2nd contracts because 3rd and 4th contracts are less uniform and more variable.
