Just by my eyes, when I watch Goff in the redzone, especially about 10 yards out, I feel very confident that he will convert for six points. However, in the last 2 minutes of a game when Goff isn't close to the redzone, I don't feel nearly as confident that he will do well. I would expect the stats to back up what my eyes see.
I think Goff processes very quickly in tight quarters, but he has yet show that he is very good at making big plays with a lot of space in front of him specifically in the 4th quarter when the game is close. That's not to say that he hasn't done it, but he hasn't done it consistently and I'll bet his stats in those situations are not good. Goff is not a physical freak that can create plays with his feet or strength like Wentz has done, so he has to get it done by improving where he goes with the ball when there is so much room to work with.
Well he went 11-4 in regular season as starter so he made plenty of big plays and actually lead the NFL in YPC at 12.9.
In the four losses he did have his faults, but it wasn't all on Goff.
vs Redskins he did have a game ending INT
vs Seahawks he played well enough in that final drive to win that game, but we all know what happened.
vs Vikes it seemed to be a complete team letdown, versus a very good defense....the Kupp fumble was huge imo.
vs Eagles he played his ass off and put up 35 on a team that wasn't used to having 35 hung on them, unfortunately our defense was having issues trying to get Foles off the field and we lost a game to the eventual Super Bowl champs....no shame in that.
In the playoff loss he was actually pretty clutch in that game, considering we had the ball only 15 minutes compared to Ryan who had it 45 minutes. We still outgained them in total yards.
The three drops by Higbee, Watkins and Watkins in the end zone at the end of the game didn't help his cause.
I expect Goff to get better and better as the years go on.....early reports from OTA's sound like he is throwing darts.
