$30,000,000 a year for the next 5 years..........Watch this, and try not to cry.
$30,000,000 a year
That's about $82,000 per day, everyday for 365 days. (Its takes him 1 1/2 days to make what I do in an entire year.)
That's about $3,400 per Hour, every hour, on the hour for the next 5 YEARS.......When M.Ryan sleeps for 8 hrs, he wakes up to about $27,000 next to his bed.
WOW !!!!!!!!!
The median salary for a single American -- not talking about households, which usually have more than one earner -- is in the 30K range. Half above that. Half below it.
So Ryan makes more than double the median salary per day.
To me, that's insane. First off, we made a huge mistake long ago by equating material and monetary wealth with "success," with one's own monetary compensation for work being the Be all and End all. There are other reasons why we go to work, and why we want to work, and what makes us feel good about our jobs and ourselves when we do, etc. etc.
Second, the massive gap between working class pay and top of the pyramid pay (or the managerial class just below it) . . . means a massive gap in wealth, power, privilege, life expectancy, health . . . and access to the life's bounties, etc. etc. . . . and strains democracy to the breaking point.
I know we're talking football here, and it's not a philosophy seminar . . . but these things actually do impact life overall. They contribute to the already existing Grand Canyon between the haves and the have nots, and there's no justifiable rationale that supports that chasm.
If, OTOH, Joe Smith works one hour a week, and Mary Jones works 40, you have that rationale, more or less. But not if they both do their 40.
Just my take, anyway.
