I was looking at the roster. I started highlighting the players that are assured to making the roster. I'm putting the over/under of players making this team at 5. This does not take into account potential practice squad positions and UDFAs.
Here is the rundown.
Brian Allen C - Does he come in as a guard? Is Blythe gone? Do we carry 3 centers?
John Franklin-Myers DE - Does his name fit on the jersey? Being so raw, can he beat out Fox, Westbrooks, Longacre?
Justin Lawler DE - Other than his name fitting on the jersey, he has the same issues as Franklin-Myers.
Sebastian Joseph DT - Can he make the tackle rotation and replace Smart, Easley?
Jamil Demby G - This will be interesting because in a way he may be competing against Allen as well. His life may be a function of how many OL we keep.
Travin Howard LB - There is a crowded house here. Barron, Ebukam, Hager, Kiser, Scales. Good luck.
Micah Kiser LB - Not much to say here. He's in.
Obgonnia Okoronkwo OLB - Not much to say here. He's in.
Trevon Young OLB - With Littleton, Price and OO, good luck.
John Kelly RB - Is he going to replace Malcolm Brown?
Joseph Notebloom T - Not much to say here. He's in.
There are 8 UDFAs.
Dalton Keene DT
McKay Murphy DT
Tegray Scales LB
Afolabi Laguda S
Steven Parker S
Chucky Williams S
Cody McElroy TE
LaQuivionte Gonzalez WR
Some responses.
Allen is the center of the future. They can carry both Allen and Blythe for the time being. But, Blythe is not the center of the future. He's a gamer and a good off the bench back-up but he is not starting material.
Franklin, yes, could beat out Fox. This year or after the practice squad year. He could also replace Easley down the road.
Agree on Kiser, Obo, Noteboom. As for NB's future...hard to say. Can he play LOT? If not, he's a guard or ROT.
Demby btw I think is in but he's a guard.
Young has the makings of a possible future Barwin type if he steps up from injury and comes through this summer.
There's also Scales. They have a ton of promising prospects at LB.
Kelly. He's going to be the #3 back. He could even replace Brown as the #2 during the season, He's in.
