Presumably if he can get Eli going again, it would be as a short yardage game manager who can produce in play action.
Last year the Vikes were 21st in passing attempts, but 11th in yards. That's with 84% of their attempts under 20 yards. So the yards alone tell you what it means to build in play action shots the way they did. But then they insisted on running the ball, even with a low YPA.
And in terms of the run game and play action...last year the Giants were 25 in rushing attempts and 26th in yards.
And the Giants have had massive OL issues. Sometimes it's easy to forget that with most good qbs in the NFL, if you mess up the OL, you mess up the qb with it. There are only a handful of qbs any given decade who can still play effectively behind subpar and/or injury demolished OLs. Does that mean Eli is a sure bet to improve? No but it's a consideration.
Keenum under pressure without a healthy solid OL is if anything worse than Eli. But when things were stable there Shurmur could field a productive offense with him.
