Totally agree. When we get down to 53 and 3 are a K, P and LS you have no real depth. Two injuries at any position and you are scraping.
If Goff and Mannion both went down we would be starting who? If woods and Kupp were both out? TA and Reynolds maybe. What if we lost both safeties? Yikes. And this is our depth areas. We lose both TG and Brown? Or worse, Whitworth and Saffold? We're screwed. So, you take the player with the best value. You can trade from the surplus. My big thing is why do these billionaire owners insist on such small squads? Sure, every once in a blue moon a QB will go down and a grocery bag filler will win you a Super Bowl. It happened last year with Wentz and Foles, but nearly every time the team's season is lost. Why 53? And then you can only suit up 45. There are 22 different starting positions plus the 3 STs. With 45 you begin each game with less than one backup at each position. So there's no back up P or K. But they can get hurt too. Greg the Leg went down with a back. Could that cost us a game? Sure. What if Hekker got hurt? Disasterous. So they make the Practice squad bigger. Big woo. Rosters can't afford to have enough back up OL? We need utility guys to back up several positions? Why? None of it makes sense. None.
