There are quality safeties out there (Reid, Vacarro, etc.) in free agency and they aren't even getting $7 million offers.
The league is not valuing the position. Unfortunately somebody misdiagnosed the market...we are, in current market terms, likely overpaying Joyner big time.
I was listening to NFL Radio again today. Nobody is moving on safeties at all...crickets. And, since nothing is happening one of these guys is going to sign for a low offer and the market is going to plummet.
We should have tagged Watkins and could have offered Joyner $9 million in a LT deal...a number nobody is contemplating right now. As it stands, Joyner is likely going to have to take a pay cut next year...unless something gives in the safety market. If Joyner actually performs for a second year, and we lose him, then the whole Watkins situation becomes even more of a blown situation.
And imagine, if we would give 2 first rounders to have to get Beckham...what a cluster. Sammy at $16 is sounding pretty darn good.
