No doubt Darnold, Rosen, Allen & Mayfield would have been selected before the 23rd pick and most likely Lamar Jackson. The question is does Mason Rudolph sneak in the first round before 23. If not, then some assemblance of 19 NON-QB players will be selected before Rams get to the podium.
It always so tempting to draft NEED in 1st round and BPA afterwards. The obvious problem is that NEED makes you stretch to a player and BPA doesn't allow you to fill a hole in your lineup. AD wasn't considered a need and many though Zack Martin after the Giants took Odell right before our pick. Same year, we skipped over Sammy Watkins & Khalil Mack to take Greg Robinson. As I recall the talk, was Robinson or Jake Mathews or Taylor Lewan in a trade down because we needed a OT with Jake Long coming off ACLs again.
So that being said, I think you draft based on BPA on your draft board or trade down and fill your holes in FA before the draft preferably, the after the draft if necessary. If we sign Suh (which I am doubting) and Vita Vea drops to 23rd pick (what do you do?), if he is rated 10th on Rams board and someone like Rashaan Evans fills a need at ILB and is also available but 29th on their board?
