Of course he said it "in jest." Nobody implies he actually meant it.

The point is, I think it gives a hint to what he is looking for-- that he is not merely going to play for the highest bidder.

If a playoff team offers him a slightly lower but "comparable" bid as compared to a crappy team, he might go for the better team. That's all.
