They inquired about Drew Brees? That's a strategy....was he gonna leave New Orleans at the end of his career and play for a 4-12 team with a crappy o line and a rookie head coach? They pursued Cousins as did maybe 8 others teams. What were the odds he would sign with a bad Cardinals team.
Bradford has missed 44 games in the last 5 years and has a significant injury history. Paid him $20 million?
If I was Cards I would use that money to build elsewhere and focus on rebuilding. They are a bad team that needs to look for the future and draft a qb this year or next. Use resources to move up in the draft and sign a cheaper transition.
They haven't paid him $20M. They paid him $15M with protections built in for injuries. He can reach $20M with incentives and if he does, it will be worth it for the Cardinals.
Not sure what they did to try and get Brees but the point is, they pursued many different avenues. This guy is roasting the Cardinals and acting like their offseason goal was to go with Bradford. They wanted Cousins and made a very generous offer. They wanted Brees. They inquired about Foles. Have no idea if Taylor or McCarron were really options but it isn't like they had unlimited options out there.
Now, they should be criticized for not having drafted or acquired a young, developmental QB in the last few years since Palmer was obviously coming to the end. But, for right now, they could only pursue who's out there. Using 8% of their cap on a starting caliber QB on a 1 year, team friendly, easy out contract is a decent enough move.
