As for AD, I want to keep him...and it's not my money so I'm willing to pay the moon to him...
I'm just sayin that each team has a budget for the type of team they want/or have and they try to stick to that budget...rightly or wrongly.
Just lookin at how the Pats have been navigating this concept cuz for all their success, I rarely know the players on their team...it seems they win with no names alot of the time...
sans some cheap/choice vet FA pick-ups that last a year or two.
Anyway, the great thing is...the staff pay the price for their choices & strategy...
that's why the HC turnover is so very high.
The Patz don't have an Aaron Donald. If they did, they would be better.
In fact there are only 3 DTs in all history who were pro bowlers in each of their first 4 seasons---Olsen, Joe Greene, and Donald.
The difference? In those first 4 seasons, Greene was a first-team all pro twice. Donald was a first-team all pro 3 times.
The cap can be maneuvered. With a Donald on board you can afford to fill positions with draft picks, UDFAs, low budget FAs, cuts & other pick-ups.
