Is there such a thing as too much cap space for FA?

Sometimes I wonder.

It's a law of the Universe that you'll always overpay especially for 1st tier FAs, and often 2nd tier FAs.
And, some guys who finally get the big bucks mail it in from there on out. They're rich, and they're done with the extraordinary effort.

So I wonder if you can get too aggressive in FA and get a little cap cash happy, buying up guys who are seeking top dollar? And in the end only getting your money's worth from a few guys?

I think about the Jets with cap space to burn and I imagine they'll burn it. But will they get guys that will really help them to become a playoff team?

I suppose it happens, but I don't think you build a team on FAs; you pepper them in, in certain places for specific reasons.

I like 2nd and 3rd tier FAs because typically they're signing "bridge" contracts, or hoping they can either extend a career that is nearing its end at least partly because they love the game, or they're no-name guys who were over looked and maybe just not given a chance.
