that is not what is going on, the 3-4 the Rams played was a one-gap defense, same as the 4-3. Yes, there are some differences in what you ask the WILL (Quinn to do) and it's likely they didn't drop him as much as they will Ebukan (if he moves to WILL) but if you listen to NFL coaches they will always say that there is not that much difference because the 3-4 defenses played now are not the same as those of 20-30 years ago

Quinn and AO are gone because of lack of production compared to big salaries.

WHile I have said AO was miscast in Wade's scheme, he was miscast the year before, too, IMO. I posted lots of stills of the Rams scheme and people can look them up, and never did the Rams play what was the old 3-4 defense. Always they had one of the OLBers committed to a gap, making it really an under defense. All that happened was one of the OLBers was a DE on any given play.

Had Quinn gotten 12-15 sacks he would still be around. Now, I know that they rarely dropped Quinn into coverage. It is possible, even likely, that Wade may want his SAM and WILL to both cover an equal amount of snaps and Quinn couldn't do it. So, in that sense, yeah, Quinn was not a fit. But the errors I saw him make were when they were in run defense anyway and he was a defensive end for all intented and purposes on those plays.

AO, just was not super effective and they needed cap room so they likely can get someone do do what he did, and even better, for less money. But his failings were not jsut in the 3-4 as MIKE, they were in the 4-3 as a MIKE

Besides, more than 50-60% of the time Rams were in nickel, in a 4-2-5 defense. (Occasionally a 4-1-6) an in the 4-2-5 Quinn was the RDE and AO and Barron were the 2 LBers.
