Problem with Snead/Demoff is that they can’t decide who they want to keep early enough to avoid looking like buffoons. The right move was to have signed Joyner long term last year even if it cost them a few extra bucks.
They haven't been good at signing their players to extensions.
And the ones they have signed were the players that I thought they could afford to let walk. And all were overpaid.
I suspect the Rams low ball early in the negotiation process. The players have little incentive to sign deals when they're this close to FA especially since agents are already making off the record deals at the Combine.
That said, this Joyner/Watkins dilemma would have been hard to avoid. You can't sign Joyner to a long term contract when you hire a new HC/DC, new scheme, and you're switching his position.
