I think is the type of TE they pick up

an older veteran on the back nine or someone with an injury history. They get a solid tight end for cheap and short contract.
They continue to develop younger guys, but they get some immediate production too.

With the 2 tight end sets McVay loves, the vet and Everett can get a lot of snaps.
