Re: Post season flub should be catalyst for growth

McVay will be kicking himself but if he is who I think his character says he is he will own up and then bone up on his tendencies.

Really needs to improve on our early offensive rhythm play calling. More improvement in our short passing game. More quick hits and even some of the stuff on the last drive. Goff needs to be allowed to get a feel and build confidence as well as reading defense by being more patient not just focusing on the big play or just routine toss to Gurley regardless of what Defense was doing. I also notice that we send Brown out into passing route but will not throw screen to him effectively limiting protection on those plays.Goff needs to be aware of the opportunity and coached to take advantage of it not go the other way.

Todd Gurley was also not consistent in the running game because of the play calling and that neglect has to stop.

Better job scheming playmakers. He needs to understand that Woods is our top WR not Krupp. Woods was not utilized more early. Watkins was almost ignored in the scheming and this is why we have the rest of offseason to evaluate and regroup. Woods at home is money and should have been more of the game plan to open up our offense early even as a possession WR. We don’t need to try and trick every body up just because we think we can.

TEs are under utilized but expected to make plays and just too inconsistent the way we use them. If we need Bette r we had better get them this off-season next year will be no cake walk and we now have target on our backs so we need to be even better offensively.

Too much has been McVay’s bag of tricks and schemes and in 2017 perhaps we needed it more to achieve what we have but that bag won’t cut it in 2018 if our offensive players and especially our QB don’t own this offense. 2018: Time to separate and cut some of those strings on the QB as well. Next year Goff should be even better and 4000 yards should be expected. Still a lot of points were left on the field and yards also. I am expecting that this offense needs some reshaping in protection (OL/TE) and we need to add a RB or FB that can help Gurley and Goff. We need to discover a dynamic deep threat to compliment Woods. Certainly, the Watkins neglect should not happen again. Players were exchanged for him and we could not get him open enough for to be a worthy difference maker. He may not be the guy but McVay insisted he and Austin were helping but that makes McVay culpable fore the lack of productivity and waste of cap space. He needs to figure out what he needs and get this thing build to last.

Defense has to address LBs and certainly nail down our corners. Donald needs to be signed or traded before the Draft Imo. Barron and Ogletree were not a factor in our biggest game. Neither making positive impact. Why is Barron not able to play safety? He is too undersized and is not the answer and Ogletree is limited on the inside. We need to certainly look for a real impact every down LB inside.

We lost fair and square we were not ready and that is the sum of it. Here’s to progress and reflection and getting better.Bravo Smiley

I have to think losing to 9er almost deliberately sorta sent a subliminal message that made the team think they had arrived and that seeding did not matter mantra sorta blew up in our face. You compete to win every game and of course don’t play injured players but if are playing at home you gotta win.

If we don’t start winning at home and get that sense of urgency it will undu this franchises momentum from this year. I don’t want to see another home loss even if we suffer a setback in our road record. That is how dynasties are born and home crowd enthusiasm is built. Who wants to pay for us to casually perform at home.
