He went wild in the Packers final game of the season....and suckered the Seahawks into signing a 3 year, $20 Million contract (9 million guaranteed).
Rams have Mannion for one more year after this year is over. Don't forget, he has essentially lost two years of development having to play under Fisher. He will be 27 in the first year of his next contract (2019). I would bet that McVay thinks he can find some diamond in the rough college QB and develop him into a solid QB as a backup to Goff. So, the best scenario this weekend would be for Mannion to light it up....then hope the Rams could sucker some team into overpaying for a sign-and-trade deal just before the draft.
But even if Mannion goes 25-35, 320 yards, 4 TD's...and outplays the NFL darling Jimmy G.....most coaches will say it's the system....and probably figure they could not duplicate it with Mannion. So I doubt you would get anything higher than a fourth rounder. On the other hand....many coaches have big egos and might think they can coach Mannion up as good (or better) than McVay.
So who knows?
I think McVay drafts his next backup QB next year anyhow (5th or 6th round). If Mannion goes wild and yields a third round pick.....take it an run....sign an old veteran and draft the next backup QB.
