that Goff didn't climb that pocket more. I really wish I would have saved the game so I could re-watch it. But in the stills, the ball is snapped from the 35. Goff drops to the 27 then slides off the right hash to closer to the center of the field. He is now at the 25-26 yard line. He steps up 1 yard and is stripped.
IMO (and no offense B & G) moving up from the 25 to the 27 to throw the ball isn't what I would call climbing the pocket. I would call that stepping up in the pocket, but that was only after he went back from the 27 to the 25 in the first place.
Kendricks is at the 40 so Goff has plenty of space to climb that pocket and throw that ball. Again, maybe watching it in motion would make me think otherwise, but I doubt it.
His back foot hit the 25 yard line at the top of his drop....he got stripped at the 28 1/2 yard line.
Also, Saffold's man was just about to be in his face....so he didn't have much more room to move up. He was also pulling the trigger on the throw right at the strip.
Holding the ball too long was the problem (3.7 sec), not lack of climbing the pocket.
The most puzzling thing about this play is that Higbee was lined up on the wing on the right and at the snap he slid all the way across the formation to go help Whitworth......why not help Williams?... who obviously needed help
