McVay is like a parent with a baby taking early steps. He came into a very unmanageable offense and had to completely restructure and manage it. He is a little too overly obsessed with trying to get everything right that he has introduced us to “off schedule”.
It is code for he scripts what he thinks will work in a scenario and yet no one script failure and being overmatched. No one scripts being unbprepared for the different things an opponent will or can do it seems. He holds up the offense with play calls and last second adjustments to hopefully gain an edge. Under this current process we as fans get to see the growing pains.
The honest good bad or ugly of it is likely a painful reality of the process of taking an enept program to the verge of a proven and successful system. The success and turn around of Goff and Gurley are unveiled and yet in some cases stifled or reined in as McVay seeks to bring the rest of the offense along and rebuild trust factor that had Goff and Gurley looking like lost causes last year to many. They are now believers yet have not finished their coursework or diplomas despite fine grades so far. McVay himself may also be holding himself also back cautious to not put it all on the players to wing it but did show some development in allowing Gurly to gash Eagles a little. I agree he could do better or differently but I am hoping he has and is bring this team along the best way possible given the unknowns. All the time I do feel he is the only one setting limits on this offense in the short haul but I can’t really argue with the success so far. The teacher must be allowed to teach and perhaps we as fans can also watch agonize a bit and ultimately learn.
