Last year, Prescott (and Wentz) were all the rage.
At this time last year the question was: Is Goff a total bust?
Many in the sports media (the majority?) said "probably", some an emphatic "yes!"
Many on this board said " Maybe". Some said: "absolutely".
So the debates were usually centered around whether Goff could AT LEAST be a game manager. AND......would the Rams spend another 1st rounder on a QB this year if they stunk again in 2017. Or, might the Rams parlay Cousins and McVay's relationship into a FA signing of Cousins no matter the dollar cost.
AND......how badly the FO screwed up.....AGAIN......by not choosing Wentz.
And now here we are with Goff and Wentz as the poster children for the next generation of GREAT NFL QBs. The Prescott image has been shoved to the back seat. After all the game today between the Rams and the Eagles is all about playing for who gets the higher seed in the playoffs and probably a bye!!
All we hear, now, in December is glowing reports of Goff's tremendous play at only 23 years old.....and how much growth must lay ahead due to his young age. After all, he is nearly 2 full years YOUNGER than Wentz.
About the only debate is whether he is Robo-QB who merely stands at the line and McVay reads the D and programs Goff through the helmet speaker on what to do, and Goff just executes the program regardless...OR.....might it be that nothing McVay tells his QB much matters if the QB doesn't have the skills to do it and make changes at the line during that final 15 seconds?
It truly is astounding.
To me, Goff has to be the comeback player of the year even above Gurley.
Regardless of how the rest of the season plays out, the rise of Jared Goff has been astounding by any measure. And it is easy to see that he's not a fluke. He is just a true NFL QB talent.
