Niners were really depleted. They need a lot of new players. So whatever happens this year it's probably not fair to judge Shanahan.
But.....next year is a different issue.
McVay had more pieces to work with, although I think it's fair to say that McVay has now proved himself to be one heck of an HC while the jury's out on Shanahan.
And, BTW, while Garapalo will be the best QB they've had in a while there, it's hard to know just yet if he is closer to Gabbert or A. Rogers when it's all on his shoulders. I frankly have no idea. He sure got some good training and coaching in NE, so I imagine he'll do fine.
